SAMPLES OF FILM AVALIABLE UPON REQUESTNothing Forever follows a young girl and her mother on their way to a funeral when a strange creature blocks their path. Andrew Buzby's production took place out in the cold woods of upstate New York, my gloved hands holding the boom mic as steady as I could. The tangable atmosphere of the set made it one of my favorites and gave me plenty of ideas for the score, so much so that the track Stepfoot was created one restless night after set.
The goal was always to make a chilling, tuneless synthesizer ambience with accenting choirs. I leaned on Ableton's sequencer to send midi to my Make Noise 0-Coast for sequences built to warp and distort. Tracks like Loons, Texture, Vol.4, and Taste Rain were created with synths in mind, the latter even serving as the credits track while Texture, Vol.4 found its home as the bed for sound designing the creature. Daughter is where the choir of my own voice dubbed over and over comes into play in a major way, soundtracking the emotional and existential meeting between our protagonist and the creature. Hungry Hungry Herbivore, named after the song from Dinosaur Train (a childhood favorite show), was created early on but didn't fit into the film or trailer and was thus turned into a techno house track for the score's official release.
Sound designing the creature was an exciting and new task for me to take on. Squishy ground beneath the creatures metal legs, foliage blowing in the wind as the creatures computerized moans fill the air, and the characters hesitant reactions in a broken down car.
