I am Julian Nowik, a college student based in Boston, MA half the year and Syracuse, NY the other half. A filmmaker, musician, and photographer with a focus on sound design and film scores.

I work primarily with synthesizers and self recorded samples of sounds in the world. I compose, perform, produce, mix and master all my own work.

Some of my recent film score projects include Drowning; as climate change quickens and sea levels begin to rise, Drowning delves into the harsh impact that climate change has had on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, as well as the future of the island itself. The score is mostly composed with synthesizers and recorded samples, this project was my first time using a physical tape recorder to sample, resample, and loop sections of the music. The noise and warble evident in tape production was meant to represent the sound of the island itself as its beauty is sinking deeper and deeper. I did post production audio mixing as well for dialogue and sound effects.

Some of my recent film score projects include Triage; a film about a soldier holding a monstrous, masked prisoner captive, and the squad sent to retrieve him. The eight tracks are composed of self sampled violins, detuned pianos, choirs of my own layered voice, drum machines, the sound of a sheep crying and even a snake hissing. The work delves headfirst into techno house, dark ambient, orchestral, and choir music to find a blend that compliments the fast paced anger of the titular film.

With 17 tracks and over an hour of film score-esque, ambient material, A Trip to the Zoo, was released August 25, 2023. It’s the debut album for my nature conservation, musical side project, Silver Kittens. The album is a haunting journey through animals that have been forced to exist in the world we've created, and yet they find the strength to move forward.

The soundtrack for Within, was composed by me in Spring of 2023 and ultimately released to streaming on September 21, 2023. Within is a film about a woman who has a revelatory experience while escaping an abusive relationship.

I have also composed scores for Voleur (TBA), Covenant (2023), False Lands (2023), and others. None of these scores are available on streaming… yet… I am also currently working on a few other projects that are currently underwraps.
