Funeral of my Past Life
Funeral of my Past Life, 2025 (Album); Composed, Recorded, Mixed
Funeral of my Past Life is the score I created for Maxine Isobel Brackbill's multi-media project (film, exhibition, zine, etc.) The project is a droning surrealist exploration of a funeral for Maxine's past life, which she is laying to rest as she transitioned. The score was primarily inspired by Angelo Badalamenti, Bjork and Radiohead; our shared fascination with 90's electronic idm music was a core focus of the sound of the film. Tracks range from the colorful, sampled field recordings of bells on The End, Buried to laid back digital beats like on Welcome Home. Noise is explored as a musical and textural element on tracks like Our Shed, David; which was written in honor of David Lynch on the day he passed away. Bombastic, off-beat synths and blasting horns make up Butterfly, a central track in the film that pairs the music with an animated segment by Adam Drafts-Johnson depicting a butterflies transformation.
